ICES Student Sonalen Saing’s Spring Break
The ICES exchange program not only offers an amazing chance to experience education abroad and cultural diversity but also allows you to visit various places. If you are an exchange student in the United States, you will get a chance to explore different cities.
What an occasion for the ICES Generation 2 students, Sonalen Saing, who spent the last few months absorbing the academic year in Oklahoma, finally got the chance to visit the country’s capital during spring break. It was a wonderful trip to explore a different part of the U.S. and she could witness the historic monuments and build unforgettable memories.
With her host family, Sonalen, spent almost a week in Washington D.C., the capital city of the United States which turned out to be the best trip among others.
“Washington D.C. was such a great place to be at during Spring Break and I experienced a lot of new things. We saw a lot of government buildings such as the U.S. Capitol and the Supreme Court. We visited the White House, Washington Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Georgetown, and saw the beautiful cherry blossoms. I also went to the Air and Space Museum. I took the subway and rode on a scooter for the first time. I really like D.C. and the vibe it gives off.”, she shared with excitement and a bright smile.
When she first arrived in the U.S. last August, Sonalen was a very shy student who was nervous to talk to new people and try new things. A newly transformed person now, she is living under the utmost care of her host family. With encouragement and compliments surrounding her, she is able to express herself freely and start doing something different.
She added, “I’ve changed a lot since I came to America. I’m much bubblier and more talkative now. I’m less afraid to voice out my opinion and I speak whatever’s on my mind. I’m no longer afraid of dogs, I’ve grown to love them so much!”
After having all of the fun, thrilling and adventurous trip, she has learnt plenty of things about the outside world. For Sonalen, this trip is an indelible experience.
Let’s go on great excursions, learn from the world around you and make everlasting memories. If you participate as an exchange student, you will not only experience the exchange program but also get to travel to different places, meet new people, and learn about diversity.
